Head AT Nazareth High School

cwise@nazarethasd.org

Christina has been with the Blue Eagles since 2000.  She attended Moravian College before graduating with honors from the Athletic Training Program at East Stroudsburg University. It was there that she earned both her BS & MS degrees in Athletic Training, as well as held office as secretary and president of ESU's chapter of Phi Epsilon Kappa, the National Honor Fraternity for Exercise Science majors.  In 2005, Christina was honored with a SPOT award from Coordinated Health for utilizing life-saving techniques in a sport related injury.  Christina grew up in Nazareth and spent her high school years in the very same hallways as her athletes today. She served as the Race Director for the annual Together for Derek 5K Walk/Run held at Nazareth Middle School, which raised over $115,000 for Leiomyosarcoma research in the 10 years it was held. Christina is also a PATH Intl Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor; incorporating therapeutic and rehabilitative strategies into horseback riding skills to help those with special needs; combining her athletic training experience with her passion for horses. She and her husband Jeremy reside on their 5 acre farm spending their free time with family, friends, and their horses, dogs, and cats.

NAHS Athletic Trainers and Service

What is a Certified Athletic Trainer?

As defined by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), Certified Athletic Trainers (AT's) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize patient and client activity and participation in athletics, work and life. The practice of athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination and diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute, subacute, and chronic neuromusculoskeletal conditions in order to minimize subsequent impairments, functional limitations, disability, and societal limitations.

Athletic trainers’ work settings include high schools, colleges, universities, professional sports teams, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, physicians’ offices, corporate and industrial institutions, the military, and the performing arts.  Regardless of their practice setting, AT's practice athletic training (or provide athletic training services) according to their education and state practice act and must be certified by the NATA Board of Certification after completion of a Masters Degree program at an NATA accredited university.  AT's work under the direction of a physician as prescribed by state licensure statutes.
